With all the recent bear encounters and attacks in and around our urban areas, many of us have suddenly remembered that the animals we share our neighborhoods with can be deadly and strike without warning.
Whether your hiking in the woods, berry picking, fishing, walking your dog, or just enjoying time in your backyard, an encounter with a bear can be a daily possibility.
This has left many wondering what the best options are to protect ourselves and our families.
In this 4 hour course we will cover:
Gun Safety: Gun safety ALWAYS comes first. We’ll talk about safe handling and storage of firearms including revolvers, semi-automatics, rifles, and shotguns.
Bear Guns: The good, the bad, and the ugly. What works, what’s better than a sharp stick, and how to choose the one that’s right for your family. We will talk about the common firearm options and explore the pros and cons of each. We’ll talk about what it’s going to take to stop an attack, how to use your gun in such an emergency. We’ll also talk about holster and storage options to ensure you can get to your gun when you need it.
The second half of class you will have the opportunity to shoot five different bear guns. This is an extra $25 per person to cover the costs of ammunition.
Bear Behavior: The best option is to avoid an encounter at all costs. We’ll discuss best practices for doing this, but we’ll also talk about what to do if that fails. Not every bear is interested in eating you. We’ll talk about what you should do, and what you shouldn’t.
Bear Spray: We’ll talk about bear spray and how it works. We’ll show you how to use it effectively, and discuss what can go wrong. Storage, how and why to carry it even if you have a gun, how to know if it’s still good or not after it expires and what to with it when it’s not.
You will need:
